The largest underground reuse water project in Asia is about to be transformed by the introduction of equipment boasting the latest technology.
The Huai Fang reuse water treatment plant in Beijing will now feature ultrafiltration-membrane bioreactor technology and an ozone system, used to treat the wastewater, thanks to a €144 million agreement between SUEZ environment and the Beijing Drainage Group.
This technology enables the plant, which features a treatment capacity of 600 000m3/day since its commissioning, to produce optimum quality water, thereby contributing to the conservation of the natural environment receiving the outflow.
The plant will treat the wastewater produced by over 3 million people and once treated the wastewater may be re-used for city management projects or discharged into wetland and watercourse.
SUEZ environment will also supervise the commissioning and testing of the equipment of the Huai Fang plant which is operated by the Beijing Drainage Group, a wholly state-owned wastewater utility established with the approval of the Beijing Municipal Government.
The company has a good track record in Beijing having already supplied the equipment for the wastewater treatment plants of Jiuxianqiao Beijing Capital Steel Group, Beijing Capital Steel Mining Company and the third drinking water treatment plant in Beijing.
