The Kouga Municipality in Jeffrey’s Bay in the Eastern Cape has received permission from the Department of Environmental Affairs to dig a trench to alleviate an overflowing estuary.

The estuary that has forced the closure of the bridge that links Aston Bay to Paradise Beach leaving residents disgruntled.

The causeway has been flooded for the past five weeks forcing residents to take a 23 kilometre detour. The Department of Environmental Affairs says the decision falls within the ambit of the law as it qualifies as an emergency.
